Life Is But A Dream...

Well, life is about dreaming right? When I was younger, I had a dream to become a Broadway dancer. While I am not 100% what happened to the original desire, it faded and needless to say, was never accomplished. I was a dancer and am still at heart, but I will always have the regret of not seeing how far I could go or how good I could become with the intense practice and determination that professional dancers must possess.

But it is okay. Life has been good.

I have been fortunate to graduate from college, have a fabulous twelve year career in the non profit world, marry my college sweetheart and be a mom to an amazing boy who has made me realize there is more in this world than myself. Funny how kids can do that. And so when I think about having a dream or desire something, how it will affect him is the immediate following thought.

I have always loved to bake and more recently (last five years) I have begun to enjoy cooking. Being from the South (Roll Tide!), food is just part of what we do, it is a way of life, part of our culture. This has at times proved to be problematic for the waistline, but for the most part, I have kept it in check. Some of my earliest memories are of  baking cakes, brownies and cookies with my grandmother and YES! She even let me lick the bowl...which is the best part right? But that experience instilled in me the desire to fill the kitchen with the welcoming smell of fresh baked goods and later, to make meals from scratch for my own family.

So when thinking about a dream, my first initial thought was to open a cupcake shop. Cupcakes have been all the rage for at least a decade now and I have to admit, I can make some pretty delicious flavors. But after investigating start up costs and weighing the pros and cons of a brick and mortar operation as such, I decided to move along in my decision process.

Of course, we all know that Food Trucks have become very popular. Okay, way popular. At the time we lived in South Carolina, right outside of Hilton Head Island, so the only food truck for most of our time there was a local restaurant's taco truck. I never tried it, but I have heard it is really good. Other than reading about these mobile food units online or hearing about them in the news, I did not experience one until about three years ago during a vacation to Seagrove, Florida. There I had the pleasure to taste the best Bloody Mary on 30-A, taste a fine grilled cheese and splurge on an amazing cupcake with a shot of frosting on the side! Now granted, these food "trucks" were and still are actually really cool Airstream trailers that do not move, but I have to say, for a first time food "truck" experience, that was not bad at all.

All that being said, we now have moved back to Alabama, living in the quaint little town of Fairhope, and I see a need that also coincides with what I have determined to be my next dream...

Welcome to My Little Food Truck Dream!

(or a Food Trailer...regardless, it will be mobile!)

I am in the very beginning planning stages. But I figured it might be fun to do some interactive planning, especially trying to involve the local communities by soliciting their advice, suggestions and more. Hence, this blog. I realize I am possibly opening Pandora's box. But at this point, I have nothing to lose. And I think it could be a lot of fun, especially if, no WHEN, we see this little dream become a big reality.

I have just begun to research and brainstorm, but I am getting more excited by the day. I hope you will join me...help spread the word, share the blog and participate in discussions and offer ideas. I want to create something really cool that my family can be proud of and that I can say is a dream I made a reality. So stay tuned and if you live in or around the area, get excited! This is going to be fun...
